Longmen Temple is located on the mountainside of Longmen Mountain and was built in Northern Qi Dynasty (550-577). It’s famous for the ancient buildings of different dynasties. Wood constructed buildings of Later Tang, Song, Jin, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties show their excellence. It was said that in the reign of Emperor Tianbao of Northern Qi, Monk Facong roamed about here passing through Yuntai Mountain. He felt this place was secluded and quiet, possessing natural grace, so he reported it to the Emperor who delivered an imperial order to build a temple. Emperor Zhao Kuangyin of Song Dynasty once bestowed a tablet to name it “Longmen Mountain Huiri Yard”. A side yard built in Later Tang Dynasty is the oldest building in this temple and is also the only overhanging gable roof building of Five Dynasties which is known now. Mahavira Hall is located on the middle of central axis and has three rooms side by side. The style of roof keeps Chinese traditional side hall style. Although it was repaired and decorated in Ming and Qing Dynasties, it still keeps the characteristics of buildings in Song Dynasty seeing from the proportion of the rooms to the making of little components. The olivine colored glaze roof figure on the top of the Hall was made in Ming Dynasty.
